Court interpretation is a legal interpretation that includes a wide range of interpreting situations arising in courts as well as in non-courtroom context. For example, community interpreting interviews in police departments, custom offices, immigration authorities, barrister chambers. Court interpreter orally translates a speech of lawyers, witnesses, judges from one language to another during a legal proceeding inside and outside a court. The judicial, court and deposition interpreters in Azerbaijan are usually fluent in more than two languages and possess in-depth knowledge of legal terminology and court procedure. A consecutive or simultaneous court interpreter interprets in broad range of court proceedings. Those can be preliminary hearings, arraignments, pre-trial conferences, depositions, and trials. They also interpret outside the court at attorneys’ offices, detention centers, prisons, juvenile, municipal, state, or federal court, or in out-of-court settings such as attorneys' offices, jails, law enforcement facilities, or other locations.
Simultaneous legal, judicial and court interpreters
Since the interpretation of such events usually associated with debates, conferences, or public forums, it is important the there is no delay in interpretation. The important feature of consecutive court interpretation is a high accuracy, but this method requires that the speaker take regular breaks to give the interpreter time to translate what is being said on the court. A consecutive court interpretation in Azerbaijan should be made available for anyone testifying before a court or when a court is addressing a party or a witness in a language that parties do not understand. The second advantage of the consecutive court interpretation is that it does not require any hardware or equipment to perform. However, there is a disadvantage of consecutive court interpretation, that it takes a longer time and slows the court proceedings.
Legal deposition interpreters
A deposition is the testimony of a witness. It can be taken orally (oral deposition) or in writing (interrogatories) outside the court, without a judge. As depositions occur before a trial, they are usually conducted in the offices of attorneys involved in the case. Interrogatories are answered in writing under oath or affirmation as well.
